Non-Toxic Baby Stain Removal Hack
When my first son was a newborn and he spit up or blew out his clothes, I did my best to rinse, spray and wash the stains out. Whatever method I used always left faded yellowing that just didn’t look fresh and clean.
It was so disappointing to see those persistent stains and it ruined his clothes. Sure, he could still wear them but they weren’t fit to save once he outgrew them.
How I wish I’d known then what I know now!
Easy, Cheap AND Safe!
This non-toxic baby stain removal hack is so simple it’s ridiculous! It’s also super cheap–like 2 bucks cheap.
I like frugal, thank you very much.
You need 2 ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen, and if you don’t, Dollar Store carries them.
The cool part about this hack is that it’s totally non-toxic. No bleaches, harsh chemicals or anything harmful to your sweet pea.
You Will Need:
- White Vinegar (it’s most convenient if you put it in a spray bottle)
- Baking Soda
- A Spoon (optional)
Why sunlight? I have no idea. I’m no scientist. All I can say is that the sunlight is crucial for the outcome. I don’t get it, but I’m not going to argue with results!
It Works on Whites!
I’ve found this hack works best when the clothing is wet. Give the baby clothes a good pre-rinse to wash off excess yucky.
My son did a number on one of my favorite sets of his pajamas. I had discovered this hack and used it on some of his other clothes, but I was still nervous since these pajamas are white.
This hack worked beautifully.
First, I rinsed the excess poo off with plain water. No soap.
Then I followed the steps I’m going to share with you, and voila! They came out beautifully!
Here’s what it looked like after the rinse:
You can still plainly see staining. If I just tossed this in the wash, I’d have a faded version of the stain.
Breast milk poo is no joke! It leaves a mustard-colored stain faster than you can blink, and laundry detergent or Shout won’t do the job alone. This hack uses ingredients without all those chemicals and yields better results!
Note: The after photo is only after the hack–I hadn’t even washed the pajamas yet!
Here’s how to use the non-toxic baby stain removal hack!
1: Rinse the clothes. This hack works best on wet clothes (don’t ask my why it’s just what I’ve discovered).
2: Lay out the garment, and spray the stain directly with white vinegar. My spritz bottle has 1 part white vinegar to 2 part water as I use it for cleaning other things. It worked perfectly.
3: Take your spoon and sprinkle baking soda on the stain, covering thoroughly.
4: Lay the garment out to dry in direct sunlight.
5: Once garment is dry, shake off the excess baking soda and admire the results. I prefer to toss it in the wash just to get the vinegar smell out.
There you have it! The simplest, cheapest and SAFEST method to get out any tough stain!
